Create a variety of signature pasta dishes with this Barilla 12 oz. Collezione orecchiette pasta. Pronounced “oh-rehk-kyeht-teh”, orecchiette pasta originated in Puglia, Italy and is named “little ears” after its unique domed shape. Along with its shape, this cut features grooves on the outside and is smooth on the inside, which makes it perfect for scooping up thick or meaty sauces and fresh vegetables. Serve with broccoli rabe and Italian sausage for a traditional Southern Italian dish or create simple yet elegant meals like orecchiette with roasted tomatoes topped with fresh grated mozzarella and basil. This lesser-known pasta cut is an easy way to offer more authentic pasta entrees at your contemporary eatery or to add hyper-regional dishes to your Italian menu. No matter how it’s prepared, Barilla pasta is trusted among Italian chefs and remains Italy’s #1 brand of pasta for its reliability in texture and ability to complement fresh ingredients and bold flavors.
This artisanal pasta is crafted with the highest quality, non-GMO ingredients, including the finest hard durum wheat flour, to deliver a robust taste and the “al dente” texture your customers crave, every time. Barilla’s Collezione line is crafted the old-fashioned way, using traditional Italian bronze plates to cut and shape the noodles. This method gives the noodles a more textured surface for sauce to cling to, thus adding more flavor to each bite and elevating your guests’ dining experience.
To prepare, use 4-6 quarts of water per pound of pasta. Bring to a rolling boil and add salt to taste. Add the pasta to the boiling water, stir gently, and return to a boil. For “al dente” pasta, boil uncovered for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. For more tender pasta, boil for an additional minute. Remove from the heat and drain well. Simply add your preferred ingredients, plate, and serve!
In 1877, Pietro Barilla opened a bread and pasta shop in Parma, Italy with the dream of supplying his community with the most delicious handmade bread and pasta to serve at their own family tables. Pietro and his son Riccardo worked tirelessly to make and deliver their products daily to the streets of Parma and over the years began to purchase more advanced pasta-making technology and warehouse space to keep up with the demand. After years of success and expansion due to their commitment to quality, authentic products and a passion for innovation, Barilla has since positioned itself as the world’s leading industrial pasta producer. It remains an Italian family-owned company that is dedicated to bring high-quality, nutritious products while supporting an environmentally-sustainable production process from field to fork.
